Description
1934 Barker Sports Saloon- Originally owned by a Mrs Sherriffs (see below) By 1954, after two more owners, the car was in Cavendish Square London and about this time there was an engine overhaul (the + .035 pistons are still there with little sign of bore wear). Along the way it gained a sill plate from W.M.Meredith and Sons who were a taxi company operating a fleet of Rolls-Royce cars in Hartlepool in the 50’s and 60’s (however, probably not part of their fleet as this car does not appear on their records). It then disappears until it turns up in Pennsylvania USA in a bankrupt garage and it was bought “in pieces over a 100 mile radius” for restoration in Ohio in 1995. The next owner stored the car in the Dan Murphy Motor Museum in 2002 and when he died, it was auctioned for $25,300 at Pebble Beach and returned to the UK in late 2004.

Modifications
Bought by a Mrs Sherriffs who paid £840 for chassis GAE 67. It sent to Barker & Co. on 8/11/1934. She was very particular, requesting a lot of detail improvements, including two spare wheels and a 3 inch longer bonnet, and probably took delivery in Ayr at the end of the year. Sadly she died 27th March 1936 aged only 28 with her second husband by her bedside - quite a lady!!
Hints/Tips
‘Merlin’ is now used regularly and has done about 7,500 miles since then, including two tours to Europe, albeit with a lot of work on recommissioning.
