Description
| The Traction Avant, introduced in 1934, became something of a memorial to Andre Citroen. The enormous cost of retooling (plus significant gambling losses at Monte Carlo) and delays because of the advanced transmission left Citroen without funds. Eventually his major creditor Michelin stepped in and bought the company. Citroen died, a broken man, in 1935. The Traction Avant was one of the most advanced mass-produced cars ever to be made. It utililised monocoque construction (rather than separate chassis), torque bar suspension (later used on the Morris Minor and the Jaguar E-type) and an OHV engine with removable sleeves to make maintenance easier. |
